I am working with a client who is struggling with connecting her vision with today. “My vision for my business is so big I am having trouble bringing it back to today,” she said. This is the place where some of my clients get stuck, they try to eat the elephant in one bite and more than likely end up abandoning their much-needed business planning process.
Having a big vision is fantastic.
Your business vision is supposed to inspire you, your team, and your customers. Your vision is a statement about how you see the future of your business. You should be able to visualise how it is going to look, feel, and the outcome it is going to achieve.
How you connect your vision to today is via your mission.
Your mission helps you to achieve your vision. Think of it like this, you are in your car and you need to go to a destination far away, it’s going to take some time and you do not know how to get there, so you map out the directions to guide you along the way. Your mission should state the direction you are going to take to get you to your final destination.
It’s time to hop in your car.
As mentioned in the previous paragraph you need to state your mission, so you have the direction the next step is to get behind the steering wheel and guide yourself along the way. Think of your business strategy as the guide, this is the place where the rubber meets the road, its road trip time.
Success comes from planning.
The solution to connecting your vision to today is to dream big, have your sights set on the direction and create a clear pathway to reach your ultimate business goals.
My response to my client was, you can connect your vision to today.
