I have been bingeing on podcasts since COVID 19 lock-down.
After spending 9 months communicating through my computer screen I have found reading a book a real struggle. Call it distraction syndrome. I really wanted to read my great friend and mentors’ new book “Someone has to be the most expensive why not make it you” since I ordered it in late 2020, but distraction after distraction would kick in especially if I tried to read the book at home. So I started to taking his book to my morning gym sessions and have been spending 30 mins on the bike reading away. Distraction solved.
I love this book; his story and experiences resonate with mine.
In Part IV “How scared does this idea make you?” Point 22 “Have you become comfortable with the struggle in your business” he writes “The problem is we are often more comfortable with struggling than we are with abundance”. This sentence stopped me in my tracks. I read it to myself slowly and with careful consideration a few more times.
In the past I think I had been addicted to struggle so I felt like I was achieving.
As strange as this may sound one of my greatest fears was being comfortable. I believe in some aspects of my business journey I self-sacrificed to stay in a place of struggle as I had a fear that abundance was a bed fellow of mediocrity. In his book Andrew calls this the small business owners’ badge of honour, my badge would have been huge!
I did not want to wear that badge again.
Before diving back into business nearly two years ago I spent the 6 months beforehand figuring out my 5 year (hitting the big 6-0) personal and business plan. I set my goals and the steps I was going to make to achieve them. Two years into my business and by setting clear and achievable goals my previous addiction to struggle has disappeared and abundance is no longer a fear.
“Change rarely sticks unless we have a long hard talk to ourselves”. Andrew Griffiths
The best thing I did for myself and my business was to take the time to set goals, gain clarity, create a plan and work towards achieving it and you can do this too.
